This postcard shows the Omni International Complex in 1976 when it featured an ice skating rink. Visible on the left is part of the Omni's 205 foot escalator, which was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the longest in the world at the time.
For an excellent look back at the Omni in the mid 1970's, check out out Jon Waterhouse's excellent Creative Loafing article from 2003.
The focus of his article is the World Of Sid & Marty Krofft, a fantastic indoor theme park that operated in the Omni complex for approximately 6 months before folding in late 1976.
Brothers Sid and Marty Krofft were prolific television producers whose credits included shows like HR Pufnstuf (1969), The Bugaloos (1970), Sigmund and The Sea Monsters (1973), and Land Of The Lost (1974). In addition, they also worked for several variety shows, such as Donny And Marie (1976) and The Brady Bunch Hour (1977).
Scroll down to see a couple of photos from the World Of Sid & Marty Krofft, as well as another postcard of Omni showing the ice skating rink.
| Seen on the right is a photo of the
pinball-themed ride at the World Of Sid & Marty
Krofft. The riders would sit inside large
ball shaped pods and ricochet through the "machine,"
according to Wikipedia.

By the way, I highly recommend using Flickr to dig up images of whatever you're looking for. Here's a link to images posted on Flickr that mention Sid & Marty Krofft. You can click on the link if you want to see lunch boxes and toys based on shows created and produced by the Krofft brothers.
