Sometime in the late 1950's, though I am sure precisely when, the greater Atlanta metropolitan area surpassed the 1,000,000 mark in population.  Hitting a million residents was considered to be a very big deal and so a postcard was soon issued proclaiming Atlanta's status as the first city in the south to reach this particular milestone figure.
